About Marjolein
My creative journey begun when I was young girl growing up in the Netherlands. I won a drawing competition when I was six years old and this encouraged me to be curious. Life took a few different turns and I ended up making a move to New Zealand in the late nineties.
A few years ago, I really started finding my creative voice when I rediscovered arylic paint and started having fun and experimenting with mixed media. I enjoy what I create and I hope you enjoy it too. My work is often created intuitively and I am inspired by people of character and the land they inhabit. In my art, I frequently explore my own Dutch/Indonesian heritage and themes such as ancestry, family, roots, home, displacement and connection. I am an avid art journalist, combining story telling and art.
